The government has decided to install solar energy units on roof-tops of all the eight blocks of the Secretariat here and, at a later stage, atop its large office buildings all over the State.
To begin with, the solar panel units will be erected on the roofs of “D”, South “H” and North “H” blocks in the premises to get 360 Kwh of power.
The surplus power available from these units will automatically go to the State grid through “net-metering facility”.
The State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), which met here on Thursday presided over by Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew, its chairperson, constituted committee with five officials, including chief engineers of Roads & Buildings, AP Transco, deputy general manager, NREDCAP, to assess the funds requirement for establishing these units and submit a report in three days.
Tenders will be invited to set up the units, Munindra Sinha, Secretary, Energy, who attended the meeting along with NREDCAP and Transco officials, said.
It is estimated that 270 kwh of power can be tapped from 4,000 square metre space on the terrace of D and 90 kwh each from South H and North H.
Mr. Munindra said the power from these units will be available for the State Grid on Sundays and other Government holidays.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet sub-committee on electricity matters is expected to finalise a draft solar energy policy for the State on April 23 after further discussions.
