From detecting characteristics of melting glaciers to helping farmers understand soil conditions better, a smart sensor tool can do it in just 30 seconds.
SHOOL is a sensor for hydrology and land applications developed by NEERx Technovations, an Ahmedabad-based startup.
Showcasing the product at the two-day National Rural Innovators Startup Conclave, founders Nikita Tiwari and Harsh Agarwal, both techies, said that the technology was validated by the Indian Space Research Organisation. It was founded in 2017, they said.
“The sensor can detect properties of soil such as permitivity, soil moisture, conductivity and temperature in a matter of just 30 seconds,” says Ms. Tiwari, as she demonstrates the technology by inserting SHOOL into soil. Within a few seconds, the readings were displayed on an app installed on a smartphone.
The founders claimed that SHOOL can have applications in both farming and in climate change studies. “SHOOL is inexpensive compared to similar products,” they said.
