A 22-year-old youth from Shivarampally died allegedly due to overdose of sleeping pills at his friends’ rented house at Sriram Nagar Colony in Pahadi Shareef on Friday night.

The victim, identified as Saadu Lokesh Kumar, visited his friends’ house on Friday afternoon and consumed sleeping pills for better sleep, but died after he suffered seizures in the evening, said Pahadi Shareef Inspector M. Shanker. “Around 7.30 p.m., Lokesh suffered seizures in sleep. His friends tried to help him by placing an iron rod and keys in his hands, but in vain,” he said. The police said the victim was addicted to marijuana, and on Friday, he consumed more than five sleeping pills. “We are trying to identify the pharmacy from where he bought the medicine,” Mr. Shankar said. According to the police, Lokesh was depressed as a woman whom he was in love with refused his proposal.
