In a major crackdown on ganja sale, Rachakonda police on Monday apprehended six drug peddlers and seized 130 kg of the contraband from their possession.
Police also seized two four-wheelers, six mobile phones and ₹12,000 cash from them.
Tip-off on stocking
On Monday, the Special Operations Team of L.B. Nagar zone received a tip-off on the stocking of a large quantity of the contraband, which was smuggled from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. They raided the place and apprehended the gang members.
“The gang was selling the contraband to customers in and around Hyderabad and neighbouring Maharashtra,” police said, adding that the seized ganja was stuffed in 89 packets.
The accused were identified as Banoth Sudhakar (23), Jarpula Hussain (23), Dharavath Chiranjeevi(29), Kambampati Nageshwar Rao(28), Banoth Venkanna(26) and Banoth Suresh Naik(25) from different villages in Suryapet district.
The supplier, identified as Suresh from Darakonda in Visakhapatnam, is currently at large.
Sold at a premium
Police said Banoth Sudhakar and Jarpula Hussain were involved in transporting ganja for the last few months. “They were procuring it from Dharakonda agency area at cheaper rates and selling it to customers in Hyderabad and Maharashtra at a premium,” the investigators said.
