SIT constituted to probe phone-tapping case

June 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday approved the constitution of Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged phone-tapping by Telangana government and named Mohammed Iqbal, a police officer of the rank of DIG, to head the team.

Addressing a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Labour Minister Atchan Naidu said the SIT would start functioning with immediate effect.

Accusing the TRS government of playing mind games, he said the A.P. government had challenged the former on Tuesday to give it in writing that they had not tapped the phones. So far neither Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao nor any Minister had responded. “We have 100 to 200 per cent evidence that the phones were tapped,” he said and claimed that several TRS leaders were involved in it. The Minister also denied that A.P. government had withdrawn its police from Hyderabad. The A.P. government had every right to function from Hyderabad for 10 years as per law and orders have already been issued for setting up police stations.
