Singapore holds roadshow in Hyderabad to promote tourism

Focus on attractions at roadshows in other cities also

Singapore, one of the preferred destinations for tourists from India, is looking forward to wooing more visitors from the country on the back of new attractions and annual events.

India remains one of the largest visitor source markets, after China and Indonesia, with 1.44 million people from the country visiting Singapore in 2018, an increase of 13% compared to 2017. It was for the fourth time in a row that the number of visitors from India crossed a million.

With an eye on tapping the potential, particularly in the backdrop of a double digit growth in the number of visitors from non-metro Indian cities last year, the Singapore Tourism Board is going for an eight-city roadshow – in Hyderabad, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata, Rajkot, Guwahati, Nagpur and Jalandhar.

In Hyderabad on Tuesday, where it had organised the roadshow, the Board’s Regional Director, India, Middle East and South Asia G.B. Srithar and Area Director, India and South Asia, Adrian Kong sought to highlight the various attractions, some new, that await visitors to Singapore. Figuring in the list were the Jewel Changi Airport, which opened recently, Rainforest Lumina and events such as Singapore Food Festival and Great Singapore Sale, Grand Prix Season Singapore in September and Deepavali celebrations in November.

Figuring in the roadshows would be key stakeholders from Singapore representing hotels, airlines, integrated resorts, attractions, destination management companies (DMC) and cruise operators. Scoot, Silk Air and Singapore Airlines are offering special fares for Indian travellers to Singapore. The fares will be for a promotional period up to July 31.

Mr.Srithar highlighted the number of direct flight connections from India as well as the process of getting visas to Singapore.
