SI injured in attack by hooch traders

Attackers sprinkle chilli power on team of prohibition and excise officials and shower stones on them too

An excise sub-inspector Ram Gopal sustained injuries after traders selling illicitly distilled (ID) liquor attacked a team of prohibition and excise officials after throwing chilli powder and stones on them at Singareni Colony in Saidabad on Tuesday morning.

Trouble began when the excise team, which went to the area on specific information of ID liquor being sold, caught a seller Venkat Ram and seized 200 ID liquor sachets from him.

Soon a group of people, including women threw chilli powder on the officials and attacked them with stones.

In the melee, Venkat Ram escaped from the spot.

Later, the excise personnel detained three women Shanti, Jyothi and Shobana for the attack.

Another woman Vijay Lakshmi is absconding.

The injured SI lodged a complaint at the Saidabad police station based on which the police registered a case under 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC against the attackers and launched a manhunt for them.

Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise M.M.A. Faruqui said persons responsible for the incident were taken into custody.
