Almonds are a better snack than most others, given that they have no cholesterol in them and because their consumption does not lead to weight gain said diet, nutrition and wellness consultant Sheela Krishnaswamy.
“A myth among people is that eating almonds will result in weight gain. But that is not true, as they replace the unhealthy foods that people eat. The overall picture is that almonds help us in weight management,” Ms. Krishnaswamy said, explaining the benefits of the almond at an event organised by the Almond Board of California (ABC) here on Thursday.
The abundance of antioxidant vitamin E, fibre and magnesium and other important nutrients make the nut a store house of health, she said, adding that eating almonds also does not increase insulin levels among Type-2 diabetes patients.
As part of the programme, Chef Sannat Chitrakar from Taj Banjara prepared an easy-to-make almond snack as part of a demonstration. One could just roast a bowl of almonds and add a variety of flavours, apart from ‘pairing’ them with fruits like apples and mangoes to come up with a healthy fruit salad, he explained.
India is the third largest export shipment for the ABC, a press release said.
