Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has set one month deadline for the officials of Roads and Buildings Department to complete filling up of potholes on the roads failing which stringent action would be initiated against them.
At a meeting to review the performance of R&B Department, the Chief Minister warned the officials that he would undertake State-wide tour after June 1 and action would be initiated against the officials concerned if any potholes are noticed.
“Fill up all potholes by the end of this month. If I find potholes on the roads after the deadline, I will suspend the official concerned then and there itself,” he said.
Mr. Rao termed as regrettable the continuance of potholes on the roads resulting in accidents even after making adequate budgetary allocations.
“Laxity on the part of the officials concerned would not be tolerated henceforth,” he said.
Highest fund allocation
The Chief Minister said the quantum of funds released by the government for laying of new roads and repairing the existing ones is the highest, but the State still has potholes.
He recalled his recent visit to Palakurthi from Warangal by road and said there were several potholes along the route. “The officials concerned were told in the past to fill up potholes as and when the need arises. But they have not taken it seriously and this is not a good thing,” he said.
He said the government took steps to bring Panchayat Raj roads under the purview of R&B Department and those under it were brought under national highways. There could be some delay in the process in the execution of works. Roads would remain unattended if the contractor who was awarded the work chose not to work. The situation should change and repair works should be done on a regular basis.
Buildings for headquarters
On the construction of buildings for headquarters of new districts, he said the designs had been accepted and tenders were called. The officials concerned were directed to start the construction process in about a fortnight and works should be completed within a year. Construction of the camp offices for MLAs should also be taken up and they should be completed expeditiously, he said
He instructed the officials to take up works on Station Ghanpur and Palakurthi road as also four-laning of road between Perkit and Jagtial which would be useful link between Nizamabad and Warangal.
The meeting was attended by R & B Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Chief Secretary S.P. Singh and other officials.
