Seven persons, including three students in connection with the case, were also arrested by the police.
According to City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, one Deepanjay Bundela (33) of Madhya Pradesh came to Hyderabad on Tuesday to meet his brother-in-law, who is lodged at Cherlapally prison on charges of cheating. While waiting for ‘mulakat’ (interview) at the prison, the accused, Syed Younus (23) and Syed Zainul Abedeen (20) of Kalapathar, who also visited the prison to meet a murder accused, introduced themselves to Mr. Deepanjay, started a friendly conversation . “When Deepanjay was going to back to the airport, the duo offered to drop him near the airport on their bike,” Mr Kumar.
They hatched a plan to rob him. Following which they took him to an isolated place and snatched his bag, cash, mobile phone and earrings. Further, they along with five others attacked the complainant and took him to an ATM centre to withdraw the money from his account. “Deepanjay, somehow managed to escape from their clutches, boarded an autorickshaw and approached Kalapathar police station at 7 p.m. seeking help,” the commissioner said.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and started a probe to nab the accused. “Photographs of visitors taken by the prisons department during ‘mulakat’ and CCTV footages helped us to identify the accused who were later apprehended ,” Mr. Kumar said. Other arrested were identified as Mohd Nadeem Qureshi from Falaknuma, Mir Mouzam Ali (23), a student from Kalapathar, Mohd Khaleel Uddin (22) of Falaknuma, Mohd Ibrahim (23) from Mailardevpally and Mohd Ali Qureshi of NC Kunta.
