Search operation on to nab chain-snatchers

The city police conducted a massive cordon and search operation at different places in Old City following a spate of chain snatching incidents in the last few days. A total of 161 persons were detained and 91 vehicles were seized during the operation.

Around 500 policemen took part in the operation that was conducted a nine different places in Charminar, Falaknuma, Santoshnagar and Mirchowk. The police took into custody 161 persons after they failed to provide any identity documents. The police laid special emphasis on two-wheelers like Pulsar and CBZ bikes.Around 91 vehicles, mostly two-wheelers, were seized as owners failed to provide proper documents.

“A few persons who hail from West Bengal, UP and Bihar are providing shelter to the chain-snatchers. The search operations are being conducted to check if any criminals are staying in Old City,” DCP (south) V. Satyanarayana said.
