In yet another technology-aided initiative, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has introduced a GPS-based vehicle tracking system at Gowthamkhani Open Cast Project (OCP) to monitor the movement of vehicles engaged in transportation of coal from the OCP to its Coal Handling Plant (CHP) at Rudrampur in the Kothagudem region.

The SCCL sources said that the introduction of vehicle tracking system marks a significant step to effectively monitor the dispatch of coal from the OCP to the CHP, check the entry of unauthorised vehicles into the OCP area and facilitate prompt loading and unloading operations.

Boom barriers have been installed at the entry and exit points in a strategic manner as part of the RFID-based vehicle access control system. They can capture the vehicle number plates through a network of CCTV cameras installed at the bunkers and other strategic locations on the OCP premises, sources added.

The JVR Open Cast Project in Sattupalli already has the vehicle tracking system. The company is contemplating to extend the facility to all the OCPs and coal handling plants elsewhere in the region as part of its major thrust on technology upgradation in its open cast mines.
