The Singareni Collieries Company Limited has braced for an indefinite strike called by five major trade unions – INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS and BMS, over the Dependent Employment Scheme (DES) from Thursday after last ditch conciliatory efforts to avoid strike failed to materialise. The company has put in place a contingency plan to deal with the situation arising out of the imminent strike.

The strike is likely to hit coal mining operations in the Singareni Collieries comprising 30 underground mines and 16 opencast projects with a total strength of 56,000 workforce, spread across the vast Godavari valley coalfield in Telangana State.

TBGKS, affiliated toTRS, will abstain from the strike.

The CITU cadre led by Singareni Collieries Employees Union (SCEU) GSM. Narasimha Rao held a meeting in support of the strike at the Kondapuram coal handling plant in Manuguru on Wednesday.SCCL officials have vigorously carried out the pamphlet distribution campaign in Kothagudem region to dissuade the coal workers from participating in the strike.
