The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition filed by one D. Laxminarayana with the contention that the Telangana government is constructing Kaleshwaram project with more than the required storage capacity and suggested that he approach the High Court.

According to officials of the Irrigation Department here, the Bench comprising Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta heard the arguments by the counsel for the petitioner and the counsel for the respondent, Telangana government, on Monday and observed that it was an issue related to Telangana and Maharashtra States and they could look into a petition only if Maharashtra has any objections.

Meanwhile, Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao, who was in Delhi on Monday, told reporters that it was another slap on the forces opposing Kaleshwaram project. About 80 cases were filed in the High Court against the project either at the behest of Congress leaders or by Congress leaders themselves, but every time they had bitter experience as the State government had taken up the project with an idea to irrigate a large extent of land.
