An office of the Saudi Consulate will be set up in Hyderabad in the coming days. The Saudi Arabia authorities have agreed to this, said Deputy Chief Minister, Mohammed Mahmood Ali.
He was speaking at the condolence meeting held here on Wednesday to mourn the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The newly formed India Arab Friendship Foundation organised the programme at the Salar Jung Museum.
Paying homage to the Saudi king, Mr. Ali said India-Saudi relations went back to the Nizam era. When petrol was not discovered in Saudi Arabia, it was the Nizam government which used to extend monetary help. He urged the Saudi government to make investments in Telangana.
Telangana Legislative Council chairman Swamy Goud said the people of Telangana shared the pain and anguish of the Saudi citizens in their hour of grief. Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MLC, also recalled the close ties of India and Saudi Arabia. A large number of people from the State are working in the kingdom while more than 5,000 Saudi students are studying here, he said.
