Sachin, Laxman accept KTR’s ‘green challenge’

Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar posted pictures of his planting saplings on his Twitter handle in response to IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao’s challenge.

IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao’s ‘green challenge’ as part of Haritha Haram evoked response from former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and V.V.S. Laxman, who accepted the Minister’s challenge and planted three saplings on Saturday.

Mr. Rao had challenged Mr. Tendulkar and Mr. Laxman on Twitter to plant saplings as part of the Telangana government’s massive plantation drive. Mr. Rao had recently planted saplings in the city and tweeted a picture saying, “Task accomplished @ssrajamouli Garu. Planted a Rosewood, Oak & Golden Champa saplings. Now I invite @urstrulyMahesh @USCGHyderabad @sachin_rt @VVSLaxman281 and @sardesairajdeep to the green challenge. Each one plant three”. Responding to the tweet within 24 hours, Mr. Laxman, Mr. Tendulkar and U.S. Consul-General, Hyderabad, Katherine Hadda planted saplings and posted pictures of the same.

In his response on Twitter, Mr. Sachin thanked Mr. Rao for nominating him for the green challenge and added, “I accept the challenge and hope all of you do too. The key to a greener planet is in our hands”. Mr. Laxman tweeted saying, “...@USAndHyderabad is now home to three new Xora, Helonica, and Mony Plants!”.
