The Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Chennai, in association with Study Abroad, is organising an education fair on May 21 at Hotel Marigold where 10 leading Russian government institutions, including those offering medical and engineering programmes, would participate. The entry is free. Students wishing to study medical courses must clear National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) according to the criteria laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Mikhail J. Gorbatov, Vice-Consul (Cultural), Consulate General of the Russian Federation in South India, said at a press conference here that the fair would create awareness on the quality yet highly-subsidised engineering and medical programmes offered in Russian institutions.
The duration of the engineering course is four years. In case of Russian medium, it is preceded by a one-year preparatory course. The duration of medical course is six years in English medium and seven years in Russian medium.
The cost of higher education is relatively cheaper as it is highly subsidised by the Government of Russian Federation. Depending on the university, place of study and course, the fee structure differs from $2,500 to $4,000 for Russian medium instruction and $3,500 to $6,000 per year for English medium, said Ravi Chandran, MD, Study Abroad, Chennai.
