Apprehending trouble during Bharat Bandh called by the CPI (Maoist) for January 31 against the Centre’s alleged anti-Maoist operational strategy, Operation SAMADHAN, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has suspended its night services between Bhadrachalam and Venkatapuram as a precautionary measure.
The decision was taken, keeping in view the previous instances of burning of State-run buses by ultras in the Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas on the other side of the volatile Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, sources said.
Suspected rebels had torched two TSRTC buses after asking the passengers to disembark from the vehicles in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh in March last year in protest against an “encounter.”
TSRTC sources said night bus services towards Venkatapuram in Jayashankar-Bhupalpalli district were cancelled as per the advice of local police officials.
However, it was decided to ply eight buses between Bhadrachalam and Venkatapuram under the TSRTC Khammam region till 3 pm daily.
Normal operation of all buses on this route would be restored from February 1, after the assessment of the situation by the law enforcing authorities, sources added.
