As Chief Minister K Chandresekhar Rao minced no words in his criticism of the TSRTC’s performance, JAC convener Ashwathama Reddy reacted to his statement, saying the transport corporation was not State government’s jagir (property).
“What the CM has said has hurt the sentiments of RTC workers. This should not have been said,” Mr Reddy claimed as he reiterated that TSRTC staff had stood with him steadfast during the Telangana agitation.
“The CM’s statements could provoke extreme reactions and suicides. In fact, these are not suicides but murders at the hands of the government. The RTC is not finished. It has been there since 1932. People will decide who will be finished,” Mr Reddy said.
Meanwhile, in a statement released to the media, Telangana Jana Samithi president M Kodandaram criticised the CM and accused him of being “arrogant” and not democratic. Mr Kondandaram accused him of not increasing ticket prices and blaming TSTRC for losses.
“As long as the government does not increase ticket prices, it will have to bear the losses. He (CM) is trying to hold RTC responsible for losses. It is not right to say unions are bad and workers are good. Workers make unions. The CM is trying to defame workers and unions,” the statement said.
The TJS demanded a white paper on the TSRTC’s financial condition and an end to ‘intimidation’.
