Nearly 44 students are treated for injuries at the health centre at the University of Hyderabad in the aftermath of police lathi charge on students sitting on the lawns in front of the VC’s Lodge on Tuesday. The students were protesting the >return of Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Appa Rao , who was on leave for nearly two months following the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula.
“One of the student has a serious head injury and has been rushed to private hospital. A number of other students had cut marks and bruises sustained during the lathi charge,” said a source in the University of Hyderabad.
“Two students were brought in with serious injuries and one of them has a head injury,” informed a hospital person at the private hospital in Miyapur.
A total of 10 students have been sent to private hospitals for treatment of their injuries, according to sources in the varsity .
On Wednesday, only the health centre is functioning and has water and electricity supply while everything else has been shut down by the university administration.

The University of Hyderabad turned into a battleground on Tuesday morning as angry students attacked the Vice-Chancellor's office after learning about Prof. P. Police in riot gear brought the situation under control after a tense standoff for nearly an hour.
