Road garbage irks Collectors

‘Those littering roads will be heavily penalised’

During his visit to Zaheerabad and nearby areas on Wednesday, Sangareddy Collector M. Hanumantha Rao paid a surprise visit to the market area in the headquarters but garbage strewn on the road irked him.

The Collector warned people of penalties on those responsible for throwing garbage on roads.

“The town will be divided into 10 zones and each zone will be thoroughly monitored for two days. We have initiated some action yesterday and are expecting results shortly,” Mr. Hanumantha Rao told The Hindu .

Four days ago, Medak Collector K. Dharma Reddy had also visited the district headquarters town and witnessed the same set of things. He found drain water overflowing onto roads at several areas.

Heaps of garbage was also found on road sides. At some places, drinking water pipelines were spotted inside drains. Fearing water contamination, the Collector immediately directed the officials to remove them.

Mr. Dharma Reddy would be holding a meeting with traders in the week-end to create awareness on sanitation and not throw garbage on the road side.

He said that traders should not sell single-use plastic and people should go for paper cups and plates.

The Collector warned that penalties would be imposed not only on traders who litter roads but also on the municipal commissioner as he has been failing to implement the existing rules.

“Recently, we had a meeting with Finance Minister T. Harish Rao in Hyderabad, where we requested for vehicles for municipalities. Each of four municipalities — Medak, Toopran, Narsapur and Ramayampet — will get three to four vehicles shortly. We will address the garbage problem shortly,” Mr. Dharma Reddy said.
