Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid wreaths and paid respects to the defence personnel who were killed in action. Mr. Rao was attending a memorial function at Veerula Sainik Smarak, Secunderabad while celebrating India’s 72nd Independence Day.

Senior military officers of the three defence services, including Commandant MCEME Lieutenant General Paramjit Singh, GOC Telangana and Andhra sub area Major General N Srinivas Rao, Director DMDE Rear Admiral Dushyant Singh Chauhan, Commandant College of Air Warfare Air Vice Marshal Radhakrishnan Radhish, GOC Bison Division Major General BD Rai and Lieutenant General K. Surendra Nath, paid tributes to the armed forces’ martyrs.

The Chief Minister had earlier announced concessions for serving and retired defence personnel in the Legislative Assembly.

Cash grant

Gallantry award winners of Telangana State are rewarded the highest amount of cash grant to honour their services to the nation, he recalled. In Telangana, Param Veer Chakra and Ashok Chakra awardees are given ₹ 2.25 crore, the highest grant among all states.

In a separate event at General Krishna Rao Parade Grounds, the Indian Army had organised a military equipment display to showcase a good number of military equipment. General public thronged to take a look at the wide array of military firearms and combat equipment, including guns and tanks, that were put on display at the event named ‘Know our forces’.
