Telangana Congress working president A. Revanth Reddy said that he would be in the Parliament elections fray if the party wants him, particularly after the shocking defeat in the Assembly elections.

Mr. Reddy is apparently eyeing Malkajgiri Parliament seat that was represented by M. Malla Reddy, who won the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket and later defected to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). In an informal interaction with the mediamen here, he refused to divulge the seat he was interested in but was ready from any constituency that the party plans to field him from.

He said it is his responsibility to contest since the party is passing through difficult times after the Assembly elections loss and later some defections. “It is the time for senior leaders to infuse confidence among the cadre and I am ready for it,” he said. Mr. Reddy however hopes to see a different picture in the Parliament elections and refuses to buy the fact that TRS is on a high. “After the BJP won the highest ever seats with the Modi wave in 2014, it could not even win three seats in the Delhi Assembly polls and that too after winning all the seven Parliament seats in New Delhi.” National elections are between bigger parties and to elect a Prime Minister. So people’s thinking will be different in Parliament elections,” he claimed.

Mr. Reddy criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for ignoring the established norms while announcing an additional candidate in the MLC elections and going on to seek Congress support for Speaker and Deputy Speaker election in the name of established norms.

“When the Chief Minister himself doesn’t follow the norms, why should the party agree,” he asked.
