Revaluation of Intermediate answer scripts demanded

Institute inquiry by HC judge: Save Education Committee

All India Save Education Committee, Telangana Chapter, has said that revaluation of Intermediate examination answer sheets is the only solution for establishing the credibility of Board of Intermediate Education.

Mere re-counting and re-verification or appointing another agency to cross check will not address the lapses that apparently had occurred in the valuation of answer sheets itself and the inconsistencies and blunders that cropped up in awarding marks, said president of the State unit P. L.Visweswara Rao.

The expert committee appointed by the committee admitted that several lapses occurred but did not identify the issues of corruption or refer to the need for re-evaluation. For instance, each examiner who should not correct more than 30 papers a day corrected 70 to 80 papers on a single day and the entire correction of lakhs of papers was completed in 11 days. That explained how callously the Intermediate Board dealt with an important examination, which had a bearing on EAMCET rank.

The committee would implead itself in the petition pending before the High Court and present its arguments for revaluation of answer sheets in the next hearing slated for May 8.

Compensation

The Committee also demanded compensation of ₹50 lakh to the parents of students who committed suicide, a high level inquiry by a Judge of High Court into the whole issue as there were several inconsistencies, irregularities in choosing the inexperienced agency Globarena Technologies even when a criminal case was filed against it by JNTU, Kakinada. There also must be a white paper on the issue if the government was serious about cleansing education system and restoring credibility.

The government should stop outsourcing and privatisation of BIE as it was not proper to give data of lakhs of students to a private agency as there would be no accountability.

Addressing media conference here on Thursday, Mr. Visweswara Rao said that of 9.74 lakh Intermediate students who had taken the examination, 3.28 lakh students failed because of rampant blunders in evaluation and tabulation and the goof-up by the Intermediate Board and the software agency Globarena Technologies resulted in the suicide of more than 20 students.

Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao should have come out and addressed the media and spoke to students and parents and given them confidence that justice would be done. Remarks of TRS working president K.T.Rama Rao that some were playing cheap politics came under fire and exposed his casual approach towards the agony of students and their parents. The Education Minister, Intermediate and Education department officials should take moral responsibility and resign, he said.

Well known poet Rapolu Sudharshan deplored the indifference of Chief Minister and said the entire administrative system would pay the price for the poor governance. P.Teja, meber of AISEF and K.Bharat of Yuva Sahiti were present.
