The Vemulawada Congress committee leaders led by former MP and TPCC vice-president Ponnam Prabhakar and others have staged a massive dharna in front of the municipality office in Vemulawada town on Wednesday demanding the government take adequate measures to solve the prevailing drinking water problem.

Alleging that the pilgrims and the locals living in the temple town were facing several hardships due to non-availability of water during the summer, the Congress leaders said that the pilgrims visiting the temple shrine were being denied of accommodation in choultries and dormitories following the non-availability of water. They also said that the water table in holy tank in the temple shrine had depleted causing inconvenience to the pilgrims.

Mr. Prabhakar criticised the State government for not completing the proposed LMD to Vemulawada drinking water supply scheme taken by the Congress government, which was in the final stages. He said that the TRS had proposed to lift water from the Mid Manair Dam project to the temple town, but had failed so far.

Congress leaders Adi Srinivas and others were also present.
