R-Day: 48 vehicles seized, 11 apprehended

City police intensified security in view of the Republic Day on Monday. Massive vehicle-search, frisking and anti-sabotage checks were carried out on Saturday. The central zone police organised a cordon and search operation at Necklace Road. About 300 policemen led by DCP (Central) V.B. Kamalasan Reddy cordoned off the area.

Forty eight vehicles were seized and 11 suspects taken into custody. A person who was carrying Rs. 6 lakh cash without proper support documents was also held. “The exercise is aimed at making the city safer, people need not panic,” Additional DCP (Central) M. Ram Mohan Rao said. In old city, police apprehended two money lenders and three history-sheeters. Three swords, five vehicles and 2,000 illicitly distilled liquor sachets were seized here. At Borabanda the west zone police conducted a cordon and search operation. Twenty two suspects were taken into custody while the police seized three auto rickshaws 200 ID liquor sachets and 10 litres of kerosene. – Staff Reporter
