This year, Telangana government is the only one in India that has sent nomination to UNESCO to name Ramappa Temple as World Heritage Site.

The historic Ramappa temple may soon be declared a World Heritage Site as it is the only nomination sent to UNESCO by India for the year 2019.

The members of Kakatiya Heritage Trust (KHT), M. Panduranga Rao and B.V. Papa Rao, said they have been espousing the cause since 2012 and collaborated with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to send the nomination.

After the formation of Telangana, the proposal received support from the Department of Heritage and Ministry of Culture, Telangana. In 2015, the KHT and the Department of Heritage prepared a dossier, which was submitted to both the Central and the State governments in 2018.

“But the Centre selected Jaipur over Warangal last year. However, thanks to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Government of India has nominated Ramappa Temple as the heritage site this year and has sent the same to UNESCO,” the KHT members said.
