The three-member inquiry committee constituted by the government with I.Y.R. Krishna Rao as Chairman on Wednesday visited the scene of the fire mishap at Begumpet airport where six trainer aircraft and the government-owned helicopter were gutted.

The senior IAS officer, who is the Principal Secretary, Agriculture, visited hangar No 3 of the airport where the fire broke out, accompanied by officials from Police and Fire Service departments, AP Civil Aviation Academy, AP Civil Aviation Corporation (maintains Chief Minister’s copter) and the office of the Director-General of Civil Aviation and Fire Safety Authority.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Krishna Rao said the committee would investigate the incident from all angles and aspects, including reports of electrical short-circuit and possible sabotage.

It was only a preliminary inspection and they would not venture to draw any inference at this stage.
