A memorandum against privatisation of Singareni coal blocks was given to the Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries N. Sridhar, and principal secretary, Energy, by an all-party delegation and workers’ unions.

The memorandum, submitted after a demonstration in front of the SCCL head office, has detailed the history of Tadicherla coal blocks during united Andhra Pradesh, during which an agreement was struck for handing over the blocks to SCCL.

Telangana Government unilaterally scrapping the agreement and deciding to hand the blocks over to private company will result in loss of employment for many, besides huge loss for the company, it said.

Privatisation of Tadicherla blocks will result in loss of employment for those working in older mines too as they will have lost an opportunity to shift to new mines, it said, and called for tender cancellation.
