An inmate of the Cherlapally Open Air Prison 58-year-old P. Pochaiah died of cardiac arrest on Thursday.

He was serving life imprisonment in connection with a murder case and was shifted to Open Air Prison three months ago from Cherlapally prison.

“Pochaiah is a native of Dubbak in Medak district and was convicted three-years and eight months ago,” Superintendent of the Jail Y. Rajesh said.

He said that around 4.30 a.m. their staff found Pochaiah laying unconscious, when they went inside his cell to wake him up.

“Soon, we rushed him to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment,” he said.

The body was sent for autopsy.
