The Telangana Congress Legislature Party has demanded that the State government order a judicial inquiry into the suicide committed by sub-inspector rank officers attached to Kukunoorpalli police station in the Gajwel Assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Suicide by two police officials — T. Ramakrishna Reddy and P. Prabhakar Reddy — recently exposed the pressure mounted by ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders on the police establishment. “There is an undeclared emergency in the constituency represented by the Chief Minister. Efforts are being made to stifle the voices raised against the TRS government and its leaders,” TCLP deputy leader T. Jeevan Reddy alleged.
Fuedal attitude
He said the “feudal and autocratic tendencies” of the Chief Minister were evident from the fact that cases were being registered under non-bailable sections against those registering their protests against the Government. “Cases under Section 307 of the IPC, dealing with aiding and abetting murder, are being registered against the people in general and Congress workers in particular,” he said.
The manner in which the cases were being registered had been questioned by the judicial officers with Magistrate of Siddipet reportedly returning the remand report filed by the police. The Government, on its part, was hiding the facts pertaining to the pressure mounted on the Police Department and was instead trying to dilute the incidents by linking the suicides to some other incidents.
Judicial probe
“The Chief Minister should order a judicial probe if he is convinced that there are no pressures on the police personnel,” he said.
Mr. Jeevan Reddy said that the Congress had decided to represent the issue pertaining to alleged irregularities in land transactions at Miyapur on the city outskirts to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Even the BJP had sought a CBI probe into the land transactions. “If the Centre fails to order CBI probe, it will be construed that the BJP is hand in glove with the TRS for political considerations,” he said.
