Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday said the State government would collaborate with Telanagana Andhra Pradesh Plastics Manufacturers Association to develop a ‘plastics park’ at Thummalur, about 50 kms from Hyderabad.

Mr. Rao was speaking at the 9th edition of the International Plastics Exposition (IPLEX 2018) in Hitex where he said plastics and polymers are one of the 14 priority areas where investments would be promoted.

He said the park would be spread over 110 acres, attract ₹500 crore investments and provide employment to around 5,000 people.

The government would promote the reusable plastic industry and that it is not averse to giving incentives to such industries, the Minister added.

Touching upon the size of the plastics industry, he said the city has around 6,000 plastic manufacturing units with a production capacity of 9 lakh metric tonnes. These are primarily small and medium enterprises, he pointed out. “Since 2017, the plastics industry in the Telangana State has attracted ₹ 1,000 crore investment providing employment to 2,000 people,” he said.
