It is being held for the first time in India

The 19th International Plant Protection Congress (IPPC) is being organised here from Sunday, jointly by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and plant protection societies in India.

The five-day event, convened by the International Association for Plant Protection Sciences every four years, is being held for the first time in India.

Delegates from 72 countries are expected to participate in the meeting.

The congress being held with the theme of ‘Crop Protection to Outsmart Climate Change for Food Security and Environmental Conservation’ is likely to deliberate on crop protection in the trying times of climate change.

Weed and pest management in the context of climate change, the spread and monitoring of Fall Armyworm, microbes for plant protection, artificial intelligence and ‘smart’ plant protection, pesticide resistance, emerging crop threats and use of remote sensing and machine learning for crop protection are some of the subjects expected to be discussed during the event.
