A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition was filed in Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday seeking to declare collection of stamp duty and registration fee by the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as per GO No. 57, as illegal and arbitrary.
The petition was filed by former MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party Y. Laxminarayana and a businessman Rupesh Kumar, both hailing from Nizamabad. The petitioners contended that the HC had already set aside the GO No. 57 in a PIL petition filed in 2013 through an order. Despite the HC order, the two governments were collecting enhanced stamp duty and registration fee from the public through the GO No. 57.
They appealed to the HC to direct both the governments to stop collection of the enhanced stamp duty and registration fee.
