The Petroleum Ministry would invest over Rs. 1,300 crore in Telangana on the new projects as well as on expansion of the existing ones this financial year, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan stated here on Friday.

The investment would be done mainly on setting up two new LPG bottling plants in northern Telangana, mostly in Karimnagar district, and on doubling the capacity of IOC’s two bottling plants with over Rs. 300 crore and building a state-of-the art product terminal of IOC on the outskirts of Hyderabad with over Rs. 500 crore to support the East-South trunk pipeline from Paradeep refinery to carry petrol and diesel.

Besides, Rs. 100 crore would be pumped in on strengthening CNG/PNG supply facilities in Hyderabad as part of making available CNG to all two/three-wheelers and small cars in two-three years, supply of piped gas (PNG) for domestic needs and supply of natural gas to Ramagundam fertilizer plant being revived with an investment of about Rs. 5,000 crore. “Hyderabad has been denied its due in the matter of clean fuels’ supply as CNG/PNG facilities are availably only for the namesake with about 21,000 vehicles using CNG from 20 filling stations and 1,000 PNG connections. The Centre’s plan will increase those numbers at least by thousand times,” Mr. Pradhan said reiterating the Centre’s commitment to make Hyderabad a clean and green city.

He stated that the NDA Government is committed to provide clean fuel (cooking gas) to all households in the State in the next two-three years. Against 86 lakh households in Telangana, only 74 lakh households have active LPG connections, he noted.

Further, another Rs. 250 crore would be spent in Telangana as part of laying the East-South trunk pipeline by the IOC at a cost of Rs. 2,500 crore from Paradeep. Feasibility study is on in case of a proposal to lay pipeline from HPCL/BPCL refineries off -the Mumbai Coast to Hyderabad , the Minister said.
