Petition against Syeraa Narsimha Reddy dismissed

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea seeking a direction to stay the release of the film Syeraa Narsimha Reddy.

The film starring Chiranjeevi is hitting the screens in five languages all over the country today (Wednesday). The film is based on the life of a freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narsimha Reddy.

The PIL plea was filed by Kethireddy Jagadishwar Reddy stating that the film makers were confusing people by not clearly stating if it was about the life of Narsimha Reddy or not. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy dismissed the petition observing that it cannot interfere with the freedom of expression. The court posted for hearing on October 16 a writ petition filed by Vaddera association, which contended that the character of Obayya, an aide of Narsimha Reddy, was not included in the film.
