Accused in murder case hacked to death on crowded Hyderabad road

A person returning home after attending court in a murder case was hacked to death by two persons in daylight after being chased on the bustling Rajendranagar-Attapur main road here on Wednesday.

The two “killers” — V. Kishan Goud, 48, and A. Laxman Goud, 25, — were caught by a police party passing by the crime scene. The victim J. Ramesh, an electrician, was accused of murdering Kishan's son V. Mahesh, 25, on December 24 last year in Shamshabad area.

“It was said that Ramesh bore a grudge against Mahesh because of his relationship with a woman,” Rajendranagar ACP Ashok Chakravarthy said. Kishan wanted to take vengeance for the killing of his son and was waiting for the right time.

Around 11.30 a.m., Kishan and his close relative Laxman were waiting for Ramesh and chased him down once he reached the junction. One was carrying an axe and the other a knife, the ACP said.

On seeing them, Ramesh began running for his life, stopped an auto-rickshaw. Even as he stepped into the three-wheeler, the duo dragged him and tried to attack him.

Screaming for help, Ramesh ran towards a traffic police constable Lingamurthy who was regulating vehicles there. The constable took Ramesh on his bike and started to leave the place. But Kishan and Laxman rushed back and pushed the bike down.

Ramesh tried to flee, while Kishan chased him for nearly 100 yards and hacked him to death with an axe, even as passers-by watched in horror. As Ramesh lay dead on the road, Kishan screamed, “I have sent him to you son,” apparently referring to his murdered son Mahesh, the ACP added.

A police patrolling vehicle was seen passing by even as the victim was being repeatedly attacked in a video clip which went viral on social media. The ACP, however, explained those policemen actually got off at the spot on seeing the victim being attacked and sent the vehicle to park a little away from the place. “As the killers fled the place on seeing the policemen, they chased and caught them eventually,” Mr. Chakravarthy said.
