Academicians and senior citizens are opposing the new proposal to make Hanamkonda as rural district and locate the Collector’s office at Azam Jahi Mills grounds.

As the controversy surrounds the location of new Collector’s office of Warangal Rural, the State Government contemplates creation of new district with Hanamkonda as district headquarters for urban district and Warangal as the headquarters of the new rural district.

Professor K. Venkatanarayana, Pulluru Sudhakar of Forum for Better Warangal, K. Ashok Reddy of TVV, Rajendra Prasad president of Bar Association, Anis Siddiqi, T. Sheshu of B.C. JAC, T. Ramu of TJV, S. Narender and others opined that new proposal to bifurcate the Tricity (Orugallu) was neither requested by the people nor convenient for rural people of Narsampet, Parkal or Wardhannapet segments.

The new districts should be more convenient and nearer to rural people. It should serve the poor, farmers, tribals, Adivasis and the unemployed but not vested interests.

Parkal is known for good agriculture. Farmers need not come to Warangal even after bifurcation. Similarly, Narsampet is popular for agriculture and allied activities. Tribal population is predominant in this revenue division.

“New district administration is supposed to be closer to the people, particularly the adivasis and farmers to the extent possible. How will the proposed Warangal (East) district serve them differently than Warangal (undivided) district,” they sought to know.

The proposed districts are unviable and un-economic for development, they opined. If, every four to five lakh population is carved as a new district, it will lose its growth potential and become further weak. In such districts private investments would not come.

“If logic of a district for every five lakh population is applied for our capital city, Hyderabad having nearly one crore population can be divided into 20 districts, but it is not justified to divide indiscriminately,” Professor Venkatanarayana pointed out. Unfortunately, Orugallu city was a Subha, zonal centre and more than that a growth centre in North Telangana, which is presently divided into five districts and lost its identity. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should intervene and preserve the identity of Warangal, they opined.
