The HMDA Commissioner also handed over to the police, five laser speed guns and 30 breath analyzers costing ₹53 lakh, sponsored by the Authority itself.
He said the move followed a comprehensive safety audit report by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) on ORR and said the highest speed recorded by the CRRI was 208 kilometres per hour between Shamirpet and Keesara. The objective of all concerned was to achieve near zero mortality on the ORR, he said adding that the highway traffic management system that was likely to be completed by the end of this year would improve safety. Speed detection These and other steps like lighting on the main carriageway from Gachibowli to Shamshabad and proposals to have a speed violation detection system like the one existing on the Delhi-Noida sector would help.
Thanking the HMDA and other sponsors, Mr. Sandeep Shandilya said that on any given day, an average of about 200 cases of different kinds were registered by the patrolling police. They included cab drivers who indiscriminately parked their vehicles away from designated bays, to either drop or pick up passengers, to people crossing the road blindly.
