East Zone Task Force on Tuesday intercepted four persons and seized more than ₹90 lakh unaccounted cash from their possession during simultaneous checking conducted at four different places.

Speaking to the media, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said that the cash seizure took place at a time when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was in force.

“An amount of ₹90,50,400 unaccounted cash was seized. The election code of conduct is already enforced. And as per the MCC, we have to check for flow of unaccounted cash,” Mr Kumar said.

The accused were identified as Devesh Kothari (43), Bhakti Prajapati (33), Khan Bilal Naseem (27) and Vishal Jain (24).

They were intercepted at various points in the Kacheguda and Sultan Bazaar police station limits.

Apart from the cash, police seized four two-wheelers, three cash counting machines and other allegedly incriminating material from the accused. Police said that the four accused could not explain from where they got the cash and to which place it was being transported.

Mr. Anjani Kumar pointed out that there are 45 flying squads and 45 static surveillance teams already working in the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate limits to keep check on such activities.

He said that as many as 195 cases pertaining to unaccounted cash transportation were booked in the last Assembly elections.

Cash of around ₹29 crore and ₹3 crore in gold and silver were also confiscated. Of these, chargesheets were filed in 120 cases and the accused are undertrial.
