Hit by delays in its last and final arc, the completion of 158-km Outer Ring Road (ORR) is set to skip its deadline by a couple of months. The work was to end by December.
The work on the final phase stretching to 33 km from Shamirpet to Pedda Amberpet was divided into three packages and given to two different agencies.
“Work on all the three packages moved slowly but we are expecting the major work to be completed by the year-end,” an official said.
Notice servedThe Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has been putting pressure on the agency which has taken up work on the 10-odd km stretch between Shamirpet and Keesara and served a notice to it recently.
“We have written to the government and explained the situation, including the delay. We are now awaiting a decision from the government,” said ORR Project Director Samuel Anand Kumar.
The agency is learnt to have sought a revised schedule for completion of the work and time till February-March 2014. “It is for the government to decide but we are exerting pressure to ensure that the entire work is completed at the earliest,” a senior official said.
The authorities hope to have the complete ORR main carriageway ready by February following which work on the service roads would be taken up.
“In next three months, we will have the entire ORR stretch ready once the main carriageway in the final phase becomes functional,” pointed out Mr. Kumar.
However, a road over bridge near Ghatkesar would require more time for completion and officials have decided to link the existing flyover there with a small detour as a temporary measure.
