October 09, 2014 12:25 am | Updated November 17, 2021 01:20 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The State Eligibility Test (SET) for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States will be conducted by Osmania University on January 4 next year.

Prof. B. Rajeswara Reddy, member secretary of SET, said that the exam would be conducted in 27 subjects. Candidates can submit their applications online from October 10 to 31, and with a late fee of Rs. 100 from November 1 to 8. With a late fee of Rs. 200 applications can be submitted from November 9 to 15.

Mandatory

The SET is considered equivalent to the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is mandatory for recruitment of teaching posts in colleges and universities. Candidates can also appear for the test in Telugu medium, wherever applicable.

Osmania University was identified as the State agency for Andhra Pradesh to conduct the SET and was later given re-accreditation for another three years to conduct the test for 2013, 2014 and 2015. However, after the State bifurcation both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments decided to entrust the responsibility to OU only.

Prof. Rajeswara Reddy said that the UGC suggested that the combined result be prepared for candidates of both the States and the cut-off marks determined for both the States as a whole.

Criteria

The criteria for determining the cut-off marks and declaration of results would also remain the same. The certificates to be issued would also reflect that it is a common SET for both the States.
