The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Tuesday arrested Vishveshwar Reddy, younger brother of police officer, M. Sarveshwar Reddy, who was recently arrested on charge of amassing wealth illegally, on charge of abetting the latter.
Mr. Sarveshwar Reddy, Officer on Special Duty in Ranga Reddy district, was arrested 12 days ago on charge of possessing assets worth over Rs. 5 crore which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.
In continuation of the probe into the case, the ACB officials searched a bank locker of his brother and found Rs. 14 lakh and gold jewellery weighing 300 grams.
Hoodwinking act
ACB Joint Director, K. Sampath Kumar, said the money and jewellery belonged to Mr. Sarveshwar Reddy and the latter had kept them in name of his brother to hoodwink the government. “Vishveshwar Reddy is not employed. He looks after the agriculture land and other assets acquired by Sarveshwar Reddy and lives in Mahbubnagar,” the Joint Director said.
This was the first case in the past few years in which sibling of a government employee slapped with corruption case was arrested by the ACB officials.
