ORR vehicular usage

Among all the Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretches presently available for the traffic, the one between Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA) and Narsingi has been logging higher traffic when compared to others.

According to a traffic volume survey taken up by the authorities to assess potential toll collection, the average seven-day traffic volume in both directions between interchange of APPA and Narsingi was 19,683.

This location was followed by the stretch between Rajendranagar and APPA with 18,651 and between Shamshabad and Rajendranagar it was documented as 15,294. The lowest traffic volume among the stretches assessed was found to between Bongulur and Tukkuguda (3,446).

Of the total 158 km long ORR, about 85 km is presently operational from Pedda Amberpet-Shamshabad-Patancheru apart from the link road from Narsingi to Gachibowli. The survey was conducted to determine the current traffic scenario on the facility and also calculate the potential revenue from manual toll collection, for which tenders have been called.

The traffic volume was collated over a period of seven days at 14 locations that included four adjacent service roads. Among the service roads monitored, the one connecting Bongulur and Raviryal emerged on top with 2,738 vehicles in the average seven-day traffic volume, while the Pedda Amberpet-Bongulur service road was at the bottom with 669 vehicles.

The ORR authorities have called for tenders for user fee collection for a length of 79.46 kms from Pedda Amberpet to Patancheru for a period of 18 months. The user fee is to be collected at the interchanges of Pedda Amberpet, Bongulur, Raviryal, Tukkuguda, Pedda Golconda, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, APPA, Kokapet, Edulanagulapally, Patancheru and Nanakramguda.

Based on the traffic volumes assessed, the estimated revenue for a period of 18 months has been worked out at Rs.42.23 crores. This has been calculated at the prescribed user fee for different vehicles and which include Rs.0.82 per km for cars and jeeps, Rs.1.33 per km for light commercial vehicles, Rs.2.79 per km for bus and two-axle truck, Rs.3.04 per km for 3-axle commercial vehicle, Rs.4.36 per km for heavy construction machinery and Rs.5.32 per km for seven or more axle vehicle.
