Bharatiya Janata Minority Morcha (BJMM), Telangana, demanded a CBI probe into the ‘illegal appointments’ made in the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) right from 2010 when the present Vice-Chancellor, Mohammed Miyan, took charge.
In total contravention of the UGC norms, a large number of persons were appointed to teaching and non-teaching posts, mostly those unfamiliar with the Urdu language, said Haneef Ali, State president, BJMM.
Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he accused the Vice-Chancellor of accepting ‘huge bribe’ to recruit ineligible candidates throwing to wind the UGC Regulation 2010, University Ordinance 1 and 3 (Recruitment Rule), NCTE norms (Model school teachers appointments) and Reservation Policy. “Appropriate action should be taken against the Vice-Chancellor and other officials involved in the scandal,” Mr. Ali demanded.
He faulted the appointment of Dr. Khwaja M. Shahid as pro Vice-Chancellor when he had not worked as a professor in any college or university in his entire service. Similarly, the appointment of Mohd Hashim Ali Sajid as Assistant Registrar when he did not possess the required qualification and experience as prescribed by the Ordinance 3 (non teaching recruitment rules) was questionable. The BJMM leader also alleged financial irregularities by the Finance Officer of the university. The courses offered under the distance mode did not have the UGC approval putting the students’ career in jeopardy.
Mr. Ali said selection process for filling 100 teaching posts was on at MANUU. The Vice-Chancellor, who is retiring in May, has planned to make ‘backdoor’ appointments. “Only a CBI inquiry will bring out the truth,” he said.
The BJMM had given a memorandum about the irregularities in MANUU to the Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani.
