Order CBI probe into MANUU affairs: BJMM

January 11, 2015 05:55 pm | Updated July 19, 2016 03:56 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Bharatiya Janata Minority Morcha (BJMM), Telangana unit has demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged ‘illegal appointments’ in the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) right from 2010. University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Miyan, took charge that year.

A large number of persons were appointed as teachers and non-teaching staff in total contravention of the UGC norms, and mostly those unfamiliar with the Urdu language, alleged Haneef Ali, BJMM state president.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he accused the Vice-Chancellor of accepting ‘huge bribe’ to recruit ineligible candidates throwing to wind the UGC Regulation 2010, University Ordinance 1 and 3 (Recruitment Rule), NCTE norms (Model school teachers appointments) and Reservation Policy.

“Appropriate action should be taken against the VC and other officials involved in the scandal”, said Mr. Ali.

He faulted the appointment of Khwaja M. Shahid as pro Vice-Chancellor when he had not worked as a professor in any college or university in his entire service. Similarly the appointment of Mohd Hashim Ali Sajid as Assistant Registrar, when he did not possess the required qualification and experience as prescribed by the Ordinance 3 (non-teaching recruitment rules), was questionable.

The BJMM leader also alleged that financial irregularities had come to light and that the Finance Officer of the university was responsible. The courses offered under the distance mode did not have the UGC approval putting the students' career in jeopardy, he added.

Mr. Ali said that selection process for filling 100 teaching posts was on at the MANUU. The Vice-Chancellor, who will retiring in May, plans to make ‘backdoor’ appointments and “Only a CBI enquiry will bring out the truth”, he opined.

The BJMM had given a memorandum about the irregularities in the MANUU to Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqi during thier recent visit to the university.
