One more held in ‘illegal immigrants’ case

October 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The police on Friday arrested Alim Ul Islam Mandal of West Bengal in the illegal immigrants case.

Mandal was the ninth person to be arrested in the case. The racket of Bangladeshi nationals landing in Saudi Arabia via Hyderabad with fraudulently secured Indian passports was cracked by the Special Investigation Team of Hyderabad Central Crime Station two months ago.

Among the arrested was a Pakistani with suspected terror links, Mohammed Nasir. During interrogation, he admitted that he had helped Zia-ur-Rahman alias Waqas, a member of the Indian Mujahideen module which carried out twin blasts at Dilsukhnagar here in 2013, flee the country.

After executing the terror attacks, Waqas fled to Bangladesh from West Bengal with Nasir’s help only to be caught a year later by the Delhi police. Ten days after arresting Nasir and five others, the SIT arrested two more persons in the case.
