The national trade unions - INTUC, AITUC, CITU and BMS have decided to go on one-day token strike on April 16 in all the mines of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in the State in protest against the alleged Union government move to privatise the coal mining and dilution of Coal India Limited (CIL).

Talking to newsmen, AITUC leader Y. Gattaiah, INTUC leader G. Kumara Swamy, CITU leader T. Raji Reddy and BMS leader B. Srinivas said they had decided to participate in the token strike in entire Singareni on April 16 responding to the nation-wide call. Alleging the Union government of giving 22% of its share to the private companies, they said the government had allocated 214 coal blocks to private companies.

They charged the Union government of being bent upon privatising all the coal mines in a phased manner and called upon the coal miners to participate in the strike and oppose privatisation of mines.
