Unidentified persons robbed and murdered a 70-year-old woman, who was alone in her house, at Injapur in Vanasthalipuram on Friday.
S. Balamma’s body was lying on the floor in her bedroom. The killers smothered her to death with a pillow. Two abrasions — one on the neck and another on the lip -- were found. Investigators suspect the killers unbolted the main door of the house by inserting their hands through the adjacent window.
After killing the woman, the intruders collected two gold chains and a ring she was wearing. They also took away Rs. 25,000 from the house after ransacking it. Balamma’s elder son, Krishna Reddy, and his wife live in Saidabad.
Her younger son, Ravi Kumar Reddy, who works for a Telugu news channel was in his office on night shift. Balamma was alone in the house as her daughter-in-law was at her parents’ house.
“There are no signs of forcible entry and the lock of the door was intact. It looks like persons familiar to the victim are behind the killing,” Vanasthalipuram ACP K. Ramchander Rao said.
