May 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Commissioner’s Task Force (East) team on Monday arrested a notorious chain snatcher Babar alias Baquar Akram Ali who was involved in 102 chain snatchings reported in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Medak district.

The police recovered 3.46 kilograms gold ornaments worth Rs. 1 crore at his instance.

Hyderabad Commissioner M. Mahendar Reddy said that Babar, 32, from Bidar district, used to come along with his associates on motorcycles to the city to snatch gold chains from women.

“Babar would come to the city on a bike from Bidar.

He would move around and commit three to six offences within a span of a few hours and leave the city,” Reddy said. He was earlier arrested by the Mumbai police in a cheating case. While the police around the city would start searching for suspects, Babbar would return back to the city.

Tip off

On a tip off, the police caught him at Patancheru in Medak district.

K. Ram Prasad, a goldsmith, also from Bidar, was caught by the team.

The police are making efforts to nab his associate Asadullah Abu Irani alias Chulalu, 33, who is absconding.
